Putting Kernel Shucks Together
I opened the box for our two-year-old son and I showed him briefly how the parts connected. He’s a pretty sharp little guy and he picked up on the overall concept pretty quick. At first it was a little tricky for him to get the different parts of Kernel Shucks to connect but after a few tries he was pretty good at it. We actually have a Mr. Potato Head toy so the concept of putting a vegetable-person together isn’t foreign to him.

The John Deere Kernel Shucks is an official John Deere toy. Kernel Shucks is an ear of corn that is pretty similar to Mr. Potato Head. I kept calling him Mr. Shucks and my 8-year-old would remind me of his rank as Kernel. 😉 Kernel Shucks has 17 interchangeable pieces that fit to create his different personalities and wardrobe accessories.
Kernel Shucks has his own headphones, sunglasses, and official John Deere hat. You gotta have the hat right? He’s got this caterpillar that sits on either his hand, shoulder or the top of his hat. He comes with 2 different pairs of hands that have different positions so he can hold his wrench and caterpillar. You can make him tall or short and create so many different personalities with him.
The Many Faces of Kernal Shucks
The Kernel Shucks Corn toy comes with different faces and accessories to choose from. He can be stacked taller or shorter by adding or taking away his pieces. His different arm attachments allow him to hold the wrench or caterpillar in his hands.
Kernel Shucks comes with 3 mouth pieces. He has a smiley face with the teeth showing, a mustache mouth and a mouth with his tongue hanging out. You get decide which face you want to give him and which accessories you want him to wear. His personality will come through with the different things you choose to dress him up in.
Coolest John Deere Toys for Toddlers
This John Deere Kernel Shucks makes a great toy for a toddler or preschooler because it works in the same fashion as the famous Mr. Potato Head. Changing out the different parts and accessories is good for their imagination.
This is also an excellent toy for their hand-eye-coordination because they have to line up the holes in order to snap the pieces together. One thing I wish Mr Shucks had was some storage; Mr. Potato head has all that room for junk in his trunk. Potatoes do that to me too 😉 This toy took a little practice at first but Tyler got the hang of it quickly.
The BEST John Deere Kernel Shucks for Ages 1 & Up
Kernel Shucks was originally intended for my toddler but my older boy really liked it too. When I was trying to get pictures for this review the hardest part was keeping my 8-year-old from stealing Kernel Shucks. I guess I should have asked Ertl for two free John Deere toys? Either way, what was meant for my toddler ended up being the envy of my 8-year-old. Ha!
